Well-established clinical guidance distinguishes these patterns clearly. That does not mean any chest pain should be ignored. It does mean the sharp, split-second kind is rarely your heart's way of waving a flag.

"Having a parent with heart disease means your own risk is largely fixed by genetics, regardless of lifestyle."

Family history carries real weight, and it is tempting to treat it as the whole verdict. The research gives genetics a vote, not a veto.

A parent's heart disease does raise your baseline risk, and that inherited component is well documented. Genetics loads part of the deck. It does not deal the whole hand by itself.

Palpitations during a hot flash feel alarming in the moment, racing and sudden. The heart itself is usually functioning exactly as it should.
