Bone responds to mechanical loading spread across the day, and research on sedentary behavior suggests prolonged sitting is associated with lower bone density even in people who exercise regularly, though the evidence is still developing and effect sizes vary across studies. A single workout does not fully compensate for many consecutive hours of stillness.
The exercise still matters, and it is not wasted. It may just not be the complete fix that sitting all day requires.

This mix-up is common enough that it is worth clearing up directly. The scan and the bloodstream are measuring two different things entirely.
A bone density scan, technically called a DEXA scan, uses low dose x-rays to measure how densely packed the mineral content is within the bone itself, not calcium levels circulating in blood. Blood calcium is tightly regulated by the body and often stays normal even when bone density is declining significantly.
You could have a perfectly normal blood calcium level and still have thinning bones. They are separate systems being asked to answer different questions.

Research on osteoporosis screening has found stress fractures, particularly in women over 50 with no major trauma involved, sometimes precede an official osteoporosis diagnosis by months or longer.
