Only about 1 in 3 women can tell you their blood type off the top of their head. Today's first verdict is a good reason to find out.
TODAY'S TOPIC: BLOOD, CIRCULATION AND CHOLESTEROL
● CLAIM 1:
"Your blood type can affect your risk of developing dangerous blood clots."
VERDICT: TRUTH
Blood type gets treated as trivia, useful only in an emergency room. It actually carries a real signal about clotting risk.
People with blood type A, B, or AB have measurably higher levels of clotting factors circulating in their blood compared to people with type O. That difference translates into a higher risk of conditions like deep vein thrombosis over a lifetime.
Well-established research has confirmed this pattern across large population studies. It is not a reason to panic. It is a piece of your risk profile worth knowing, especially before surgery or long haul travel.
● CLAIM 2:
"Having naturally low blood pressure means your cardiovascular system is in great shape."
VERDICT: IT'S COMPLICATED
Low numbers on a blood pressure cuff tend to read as good news across the board. That is often true, and sometimes it is not.
Naturally low blood pressure with no symptoms is generally a sign of a healthy, efficient cardiovascular system. But blood pressure that drops suddenly, or that comes with dizziness, fatigue, or fainting, can point to dehydration, medication side effects, or an underlying heart or endocrine issue.
The number alone does not tell the whole story. Context, specifically how you actually feel, matters as much as the reading itself.
● CLAIM 3:
"Varicose veins are a cosmetic issue and do not signal anything about your health."
VERDICT: MYTH
Varicose veins get dismissed as an appearance concern, something to cover up rather than investigate. That framing misses what is actually happening underneath.
Varicose veins form when valves inside the veins weaken and allow blood to pool instead of flowing efficiently back to the heart. Left unaddressed, this can progress to chronic swelling, skin changes, or in some cases blood clots.
A growing body of evidence links moderate to severe varicose veins with increased risk of venous complications over time. Cosmetic, sometimes. Purely cosmetic, rarely.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Your blood is running a system with real mechanics behind it. A little curiosity about how yours works goes a long way.
